Kansas City-area students kick off FIRST robotics competition

OLATHE, KS (KCTV) – Future mathematicians, scientists and astronauts were in the metro Saturday to kick off a robotics competition.

Fifty-six area high school teams, coaches and mentors kicked off the 2015 FIRST Robotics season with a NASA televised game reveal from FIRST headquarters in Manchester, NH.

Students were able to see this year’s challenge for the first time and pick up the new kit of parts at Garmin International World Headquarters in Olathe.

The event in Kansas City was one of 107 kickoff events worldwide. There were 56 area high school teams invited.

“The game is different and changes every year. It challenges you to think of the robot and the field from a different perspective,” Peter Marshall said.
