This Season's Updates

Changes from past seasons:

  • Bring on the tech! Like last year’s MISSION MOON, BOOMTOWN BUILD requires teams to use WeDo or WeDo 2.0 in the challenge model. Don’t worry—kids love to code and the updated guide books incorporate their use in the challenge.
  • Challenge categories are now Explore, Create/Test and Share.
  • Teams will receive seven Engineering Notebooks so the coach/mentor can have one, too.
  • The inspire model is now an inspire set. It has over 700 building elements and six small gray baseplates.
  • Using all the provided baseplates increases the model footprint to a maximum 30×15. Baseplates can be used in any combination and position.

Expos in our region

Expos are non-competitive three-hour events where teams celebrate their hard work, make new friendships and share their projects with the community.

Our expos begin with teams presenting their challenge research, Show Me board and LEGO model to FIRST LEGO League Jr. reviewers. Presentations wrap up with a short question and answer period.

Team building and many times,  robot action from the other FIRST programs round out the morning before the event concludes with a fun awards and closing ceremony. In FIRST LEGO League Jr., everyone is a winner!

FIRST LEGO League Jr. Official Expos typically take place on select Saturdays in November, December, March and April.  The April Expo is a stand-alone event; the other expos take place during FIRST LEGO League Qualifier Tournaments in November and December and FIRST Robotics Competition Regional Tournaments in March.

Watch for dates and registration forms to be posted by November 1. Expos are free for teams but registration is required to hold your spot. All events are open to the public at no charge.

Registration for Expos

To register for an Expo, use the registration link on the event calendar or this page (links will be posted as details are finalized).  Expos are free to official FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams but you must to register to hold your spot.

When registering, please be aware:

  • You must have your official (not temporary) FIRST LEGO League Jr. team number available.
  • The team name you provide will be the name used at event.
  • Times vary.
  • Once a venue is full, it will no longer be available.
  • After you have registered for an Expo and registration has closed, your event manager will contact you with details, approximately one week before the event.

BOOMTOWN BUILD Expo registration will become available starting November 1 on an Expo by Expo basis.  The first available Expo will be in conjunction with a FIRST LEGO League Qualifier.

Expo cancellation policy

Events for our region are booked and scheduled in advance. Event hosts have the authority to cancel an event if the host facility determines conditions to be unsafe. This policy applies to inclement weather or any other public safety issue. If an event is not cancelled, it is up to the discretion of the parents and coach to determine if they will attend. If an event is cancelled, teams are encouraged to register for another Expo if space is available.

Can our team attend more than one Expo?

Initially, register for just one Expo in our region. If extra spots remain for the Expo associated with the spring Regional FIRST Robotics Competitions or the April stand-alone Expo, we will notify teams by email.
