16 May 2018 Center students a bright spot in Kansas City’s educational landscape
May 2018 – KC STEM Alliance and Project Lead The Way Launch Master Teachers hosted a design-thinking session during the Kauffman Foundation’s Rethink Ed gathering April 26 at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center.
The day was a gathering of community, coming together to explore what education can be. KC STEM Alliance’s two “lab sessions” focused on the STEM pathways, starting with a hands-on activity from the fifth grade PLTW Launch Infection Detection module. The session also covered PLTW as a best practice Project-based Learning curriculum, showed the K-12 scaffolded learning pathway and reviewed local/regional implementation as well as the national picture and scalability.
KC STEM Alliance also helped to identify the “Bright Spots” in our Kansas City education landscape, including FIRST robotics as highlighted by a first grade Center Elementary School FIRST Lego League Junior team, as well as Summit Tech Academy, Independence School District’s Academies, FIRST Robotics Competition Team Driven from Lee’s Summit High School and many more.
