The KC STEM Alliance has named Bob Crance as the new Program Delivery Partner for FIRST Robotics Competition in the Western Missouri/Kansas region. Crance takes the reigns from Robert Dumler, who is retiring after nearly 10 years in this position.

Crance recently wrapped up a 42-year career in mechanical engineering with Black & Veatch and for the last several years has served the KC FIRST community as Senior Mentor. Many teams know Bob and his wife, Janice, from their years of volunteering in Pit Admin during regional competitions.

Crance, who has been involved in FRC since 2005, says he’s seen firsthand how this program can shape the lives of students and benefit the region’s workforce all at the same time.

“We have a great groundwork in place,” he says. “My goal is to continue building on this solid foundation laid by my predecessor.”

Dumler, who also served as the FIRST Senior Mentor for the region before taking on the Regional Director role, will remain involved in the community as a coach and mentor.

“We deeply appreciate Robert’s dedication to FIRST and his consistent focus on prioritizing what matters most to teams in our region,” said KC STEM Alliance Executive Director Chelsea Barbercheck. “We’re looking forward to an exciting season with REEFSCAPE as we continue to help students make the most of their experiences.”
